Putting your head down and getting on with it.

Putting your head down and getting on with it.

Do you do that? Lots of people do. Lots of tradies do. I run a workshop and this comes up in those workshops.

I asked this question, “Do you do that?” And I had a couple of wives go, “He does that Jon. He does that all the time.” And I look over at the guys and they’re both going, “Yeah, I do too.”

It’s really common.

I’m a bit guilty of it myself. It’s really tempting you know. Things are busy, stuff needs to happen. The quickest and most surefire way to solve the problem and make the thing happen is to do it, is to get stuck in, get it bloody done and get it out of the way and move on.

I understand why it’s tempting. But it’s not scalable. There’s only one of you. There’s only so much work you can do without going mental or getting divorced, or suffering in some other way. So I don’t really recommend it as a solution in terms of building a business that’s sustainable and scalable for you.

I’m Jon and I help people grow and scale their businesses. I run the Tradies Toolbox Coaching Program. And I run the Tools Down workshops. And what they’re really about is growing and scaling your business. And part of that, is avoiding this trap of doing it yourself and instead build the systems, build the processes, and train the people so that the work gets done without you having to knuckle down and just get stuck in yourself.

People & Systems That Can Do The Work
The business works without you having to do that because there are people and there are systems that can do the work without you. One of the great struggles of my role as a coach is to help people stop putting their head down and getting on with it, for at least long enough to start building some of those systems, so that eventually you come out the other side and you’ve got this beautiful systematized business that can operate without you having to do that.

I understand why this is tempting. It’s tempting because you’re the best person at it, you’re good at this. You know the problem and how it is going to get solved. It’s the quickest way to get it solved. And just kind of slogging through the current situation is going to fix the problem. It feels safe and it often feels necessary. But it won’t take you any further down that track.

Invest In Creating A System

So today’s tip is to try and resist the temptation just to do it yourself. And think about whether you can instead make the investment in creating a system and teaching somebody else how to use that system so that work can get done without you.

And as usual, of course, I can help. And if you want to talk to me about how to do that. Get in touch and we’ll have a chat.

There are four ways you can engage with me:
