Something I learned about Trades Business Owners

Written by: Jon Dale | @smallfishcoach

I keep talking to owners of trades business who think that there’s loads of stuff they are crap at.

Some of them have a fairly low opinion of themselves. I’m a good builder but I’m not all that good at the business stuff.

It makes me a bit sad when it makes a successful and competent guy thinks he’s no good.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Nobody knows it all and nobody gets it all right all the time.

Even those guys who look like they are smashing it have doubts about their abilities and don’t know loads of shit.

This is a message of reassurance. You have started a business. This makes you braver than 90% of the population.

It means you’re good enough at your trade to go out on your own and take that risk. That’s something to be proud of.

And not knowing stuff is normal. We ALL don’t know stuff. We can go and learn a few things to help us run our businesses better (I try to).

So give yourself a break. You’re doing OK! 🙂
