Marketing & Sales Strategies For Tradies & Builders
I’ve been creating content lately about marketing and sales and how it’s quieter than it was, but I want to clarify my position on this.
The construction industry—building, renovations, and all the related trades—has been busy since the COVID stimulus came in and until interest rates started to affect the middle class. They don’t affect wealthy people as much.
So, what’s happened is that you’ve had three years or so of not really needing to worry about where the work is coming from because there’s always been some coming in.
That’s gone away—that overabundance of demand has dried up a bit.
We’re not in a recession.
The cost of living crisis is real, but that’s not having a major effect on people buying, renovating, or maintaining their investment properties. Different demographics.
But demand has slowed in many ways; your world has gone back to normal.
There’s work to get, but you have to work to get it.
My question to you is: what work are you doing to get work?
- To Find it: which is marketing.
- To Win it: which is sales.
If you don’t put much effort into either of those…
If you say, “I get most of my business through word of mouth,” but you don’t do much about driving that…
If you send quotes but don’t invest much in your sales process and your customers…
You’ll be one of the ones saying, “It’s a bit quiet,” and letting people go or battening down the hatches and hoping interest rates drop soon.
Don’t let that happen.
For f***’s sake!
I’ve been badgering my clients about making sure they put time, effort, and money into marketing and sales for a while, and the topics at our Intensive in November are marketing and sales.
I’m going to be pressing my clients and the guests who attend to look hard at what they do for marketing and sales.
- Do they do enough?
- Do they do it well?
- Are they consistently doing what they need to be doing?
That’s not all, but that’s my focus.
I want my clients to be the ones saying, “No, we’re going okay, we’re still growing. We’ve noticed demand has dropped off, but we’ve been doing the work. So we’re busy, margins are good, business is good.”
What about you?
Be honest with yourself.
